Mineral Insulated (MI) Cables
Mineral Insulated Cable is known as the most durable electric heat trace cable that are available. It is the ideal choice when an application’s temperature and power output requirements exceed the capabilities of our range of self-regulating and constant wattage cables.
MI heating cable can be used for applications with the following requirements:
- Single and dual core series heating resistance cable, magnesium oxide insulated
- The length and resistance of the cores determine the output of the cable
- Constant power output not affected by temperature variations
- Maximum working voltage up to 600 V - Please contact Heat Trace for higher voltage applications.
- Output power up to 300 W/m
- Highest maintain temperature up to 800 °C
- Maximum exposure temperature up to 800 °C

- Freeze protection of steam tubes/pipes with exposure > 500 °C
- High process temperature maintenance > 350 °C
- Fast raise and maintain applications

MAL Mineral Insulated Cable
The MAL range of alloy 825 sheathed Mineral Insulated (MI) heating cable has been developed to meet the specific need for a cable having a high temperature capability and electrical resistance values needed for long circuit lengths. To meet the requirement, Heat Trace has combined an alloy 825 sheath with heating conductors to enable an operating temperature of 800ºC with resistance values from 2.1Ω/km up to 36100Ω/km per conductor. MI cables have excellent mechanical strength and are intrinsically very resistant to corrosion. They are series resistance heaters which must be designed to provide the required heat output.

- Freeze protection of high exposure pipelines (e.g. steam manifolds)
- Temperature maintenance of pipelines

MCN - max withstand temp 400°C (752°F)

MCN Mineral Insulated Cable
The MCN range of cupronickel sheathed Mineral Insulated (MI) heating cable has been developed to meet the specific need for a cable having a high temperature capability and electrical resistance values needed for long circuit lengths. To meet the requirement, Heat Trace has combined a cupronickel sheath with heating conductors to enable an operating temperature of 400ºC with resistance values from 4Ω/km up to 28000Ω/km per conductor. MI cables have excellent mechanical strength and are resistant to corrosion. They are series resistance heaters which must be designed to provide the required heat output.

MCU - max withstand temp 250°C (482°F) and MHC - max withstand temp 90°C (194°F)

MCU and MHC Mineral Insulated Cables
The MCU range of copper sheathed Mineral Insulated (MI) heating cable has been developed to meet the specific need for a cable having a high temperature cabability and electrical resistance values needed for long circuit lengths. To meet the requirement, Heat Trace combined a copper sheath with heating conductors to enable an operating temperature of 250ºC with resistance values from 1.7Ω/km up to 2000Ω/km per conductor. However, an HDPE outer sheath must be used when the cable is used in special situations, such as corrosion resistance or burying or snow melting application. HDPE jacketed copper-sheathed heating cables (MHC) have an operating temperature of 90ºC. MI cables have excellent strength and are resistant to corrosion. They are series resistance heaters which must be designed to provide the required heat output.
